Signed from Cowdenbeath, the experienced Jimmy McLaughlin played a vital role as the club rose from obscurity to gain admission to the Scottish League in 1912.
Two years earlier he had taken over the trainer`s position but continued to don the colours when occasion arose, helping Dunfermline lift consecutive Central League titles as well as the Scottish Qualifying Cup in November 1911. However, the club`s election to the SFL came just too late for Jimmy, who hung up his boots shortly after being awarded a deserved benefit match against Celtic in April 1913
